What You Can Expect From Your Auto Accident Lawyer In Ohio
When you deal with an Auto Accident Lawyer in Ohio you have certain rights…and your lawyer will also expect certain things from you.
As a client, you have certain rights. They include the following:
- Confidentiality. Your conversations are kept private. We will not discuss your private business with anyone outside of this firm [including spouses!]. This also applies to any initial conversation you may have with me while seeking representation, regardless of whether or not you hire me.
- Competence. You have a right to expect that your matter will be handled competently. This does not mean that I will know all the answers [although I do for most]. It does mean that I know where to go to find the answers and that I will devote the attention to your matter that it deserves.
- Honesty. You will be told the truth, even in unpleasant, and I will handle any funds of yours in a completely trustworthy manner.
- Loyalty. I will not have any conflicts of interest that would cause my loyalty to be divided between you and another person with an interest in the outcome of your matter. If a conflict is discovered, I will advise you of it as soon as I am aware and we will agree on how to proceed in a manner most beneficial for you.
- Information. You have a right to be kept informed of the progress of your matter and to have your questions answered. You should not hesitate to ask me questions and you should expect to have your questions answered. I routinely send my clients copies of all letters coming into my office as well as important court filings and other documents generated in the case. You should know that, generally, I will return your phone calls after 3:00 p.m. each day, this allows me to focus on and concentrate on my work on your behalf with little distraction.
I also expect certain things from you in order to handle your case most effectively. They include:
- Honesty. Just as you have a right to expect honesty, so do I. You should provide me with full and complete information about your matter, including, especially, information that may be bad for your case. Remember that I must keep this information confidential. I cannot represent you well if you hold back or lie about the facts.
- Cooperation. We must work together as a team. You cannot simply turn your problems over to me and expect me to call you when it is resolved. Gather the documents I ask for, fill out the forms, write down what happened, gather the names and addresses of witnesses, and try to follow my advice. Clients who cooperate with me will generally get better results than clients who do not.
- Fees. If you have agreed to pay fees or costs, then, upon resolution of your claim, I expect you to comply with your agreement.
